37 HOUSE OF REPS MEMBERS DUMP APC

No less than 37 members of the House of Representatives who came into power under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) have defected from Nigeria’s ruling party.

 
Announcing their defection earlier today, during plenary,  36 lawmakers first announced their defection to the opposition party, PDP, using  division within the ruling APC party as the reason for defection. 

Minutes after their announcement, the  chairman of the House of Representatives Rules and Business, Hon. Orker Jev, announced he was also resigning from the APC not stating the party he was defecting to.

32 of the defectors have joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while four joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). And Orkev Jev, 'partyless'.

Among defectors are Sani Rano, Barry Mpigi, Ali Madaki, Dickson Tackighir, Hassan Saleh, Danburam Nuhu, Mark Gbilah, Razak Atunwa, Ahmed Bichi, Abdulsamad Dasuki and Zakari Mohammed.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, his deputy, Yusuff Lasun, was not named among the defectors.

Earlier today, 20 senators have also defected from the ruling party.
