By: Jumoke Olasoji The Senate President, Bukola Saraki has on Tuesday announced adjournment of the Senate's plenary till September.  This, he said follows the recent attacks on the leadership of the Senate.  The adjournment, which is a part of the prayers of a motion on the siege on Mr Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu is for two month. The lawmakers are to reconvene on September 25.

By: Jumoke Olasoji No less than 37 members of the House of Representatives who came into power under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) have defected from Nigeria’s ruling party.   Announcing their defection earlier today, during plenary,  36 lawmakers first announced their defection to the opposition party, PDP, using  division within the ruling APC party as the reason for defection.   Minutes after their announcement, the  chairman of the House of Representatives Rules and Business, Hon. Orker Jev, announced he was also resigning from the APC not stating the party he was defecting to. 32 of the defectors have joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while four joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Earlier today,  20 Senators and thirty seven members of House of Reps defected from the ruling APC party; 33 to opposition party, PDP and 4 to ADC party.    On this,  the National Chairman of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has met with P resident Muhammadu Buhari. In his address with State House correspondents, Mr Oshiomhole has said he is happy about this development stressing that those who left are “mercenaries” who were in APC just to win election. He explained further that the ruling party is “not disturbed at all” and that he is not losing sleep over the defections. Mr Oshiomhole also said it is good that those who never believed in the APC are leaving ahead the electioneering activities because that would enable the party concentrate on its campaigns.
