IACC OPPURTUNITY FOR YOUNG JOURNALISTS

By:Jumoke Olasoji

Oppurtunities they say come but once. Here is an oppurtunity for young Journalists across the globe to be involved in the course to make the world especially, their immediate environment a corruption-free environment.

About the Young Journalists (YJ) Initiative

The 18th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) is looking for young journalists from all over the world who are passionate about anti-corruption and have a desire to speak out on social issues related to transparency and integrity. Selected journalists must meet the criteria specified below.

In 2010, the YJ Initiative was launched at the 14th IACC in Bangkok. Eight young journalists from South East Asia had the opportunity to get involved with the anti-corruption community and communicate to others the outcomes of the conference. The project was successful and since then the IACC continue in engaging more young journalists for the conference and established a network.
The IACC aims to maintain a vibrant community that shares concerns, developments, and solutions surrounding the corruption problem, and welcomes young journalists to join us in Copenhagen this October to report on the outcomes of sessions and workshops at the conference, and to generate awareness around anti-corruption issues through various channels including the IACC blog, Facebook, Twitter, and Vimeo.

18th IACC

The 18th IACC will take place in Copenhagen from the 22th-24th October 2018. It will be hosted by the Danish Government represented by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and organised by the IACC Council and Transparency International, with the participation of Transparency International Denmark.

About the IACC Series

The IACC is the world premier forum that brings together civil society, heads of state and the private sector to tackle the increasingly sophisticated challenges posed by corruption.  The IACC takes place every two years in a different region of the world, and attracts up to 1500 participants from over 135 countries. The conference serves as the premier global forum for the networking and cross-fertilisation that are indispensable for effective advocacy and action, on a global and national level.

The IACC draws attention to corruption by raising awareness and stimulating debate. It fosters the global exchange of experience and methodologies in controlling corruption. The conferences promote international cooperation among agencies and citizens from all parts of the world. They also help to develop personal relationships by providing the opportunity for face-to-face dialogue and direct liaison between representatives from the agencies and organisations taking part.

Facilitating Exchange

As recognition of the need to combat corruption grows, so does the need for information exchange. An increasing number of institutions are involved in addressing corruption and have developed a range of strategies for counteracting the problem in varying contexts. With this in mind, the International Anti-Corruption Conference serves as a platfrom to bring together practitioners and academics working on the topic to exchange information and ideas.
The conferences attract politicians, national and local government officials, representatives of the world of business, the judiciary, law enforcement and accounting professionals, researchers, international development organisations, the media, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). In short, all those who come into contact with forms of corruption through their work, alongside those who are concerned with the prevention or prosecution of corrupt practices.

Over four days of plenary discussions and an eclectic mix of over 40 workshops and special sessions, the IACC aims to forge solutions to the key challenges that effect our common future.
